Rachel Castle
Rachel Castle came late to the art game. After a career spent branding other people's businesses, the self-taught, Sydney-based artist started sewing, printmaking, and painting at the age of 35. A self-confessed "fun enthusiast," her vibrant and much-loved body of work is defined by color, whimsy, and an obsession with flowers, music, and spots.
Her embroidered artworks are lovingly hand-cut and sewn, while screen prints are created on paper in her inner-city studio. Both forms serve as a nostalgic nod to her childhood in a small Australian country town, where her lifelong love of music began—"because music was my first introduction to art." Bold text and '80s musical references feature heavily in her work, which has been commissioned by brands including QANTAS, David Jones, and ACMI.
Rachel's larger-scale acrylic paintings express a joy and love for the floral form, birds, ribbons, and playful garden life, exploring and acknowledging her childhood country experiences.
Under her brand CASTLE, Rachel also designs and manufactures bed linen, homewares, and sweaters.
