Call For Art: In Full Color, Juried by Liz Lidgett

Open Call for Create! Magazine International Print Issue No. 58

Create! Magazine is pleased to announce the open call for Issue No. 58, In Full Color, juried by Liz Lidgett. This is an international, juried open call open to artists worldwide working in any medium (except ai).

We are inviting you to respond to the concept of color in whatever way feels most true to your current practice. Color as language. Color as structure, memory, or emotion. Your interpretation is the work. All subjects and mediums are welcome.

About the Theme

This is an open call. We are looking for your interpretation of color expressed through your art. Whether your practice centers on painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, fiber, or any other medium, we want to see how color lives in your work right now and what it means to you.

That might mean a painting built around hue and saturation. It might mean work where color carries cultural expression, or textile work where dye and fiber carry emotional weight. There is no single right answer. We are looking for work that is honest, committed, and current. Please note that this call is open to all mediums with the exception of AI-generated work.

About the Theme

A time capsule holds what we choose to preserve. It speaks to intention, to memory, and to the value we place on a moment in time.

For this call, we are asking artists to look back across the past ten years of their practice and submit work that represents that body of time. This might mean a singular defining piece, a cohesive series, or work that captures a shift or turning point in your process. We are looking for work that is considered, committed, and honest about where it comes from.

TESTIMONIALS

TESTIMONIALS

  • "21 years ago, I was crashing on a mattress in a loft on the Bowery near Prince St., counting change to buy slices of $1 pizza for breakfast, lunch, and dinner... and making paintings with awkward shapes reminiscent of Philip Guston that no one really cared about (and needed a ton of work!). Fast forward 21 years, and I'm now 2 blocks away from that pizza place at the McNally Jackson Bookstore...which is selling the issue of Create! Magazine that I’m featured in, along with my short story 'In Search of Sun Cups at Night.' I actually broke down in tears outside. The path has been long and often painful, but it's moments like these when I know it has been 100% worth it. Thank you, Ekaterina Popova, for making this possible."

    - Jenny Brown

  • "For all artists thinking about applying: having a mention in Create! a few years ago really helped my art journey. I highly recommend it!"

    - Mark Liam Smith

  • "Create! Magazine is a fantastic platform that supports and encourages artists of all levels, genres, and mediums. I’m incredibly grateful to have been selected by Sergio Gomez, an artist, curator, gallery owner, and mentor, who was the juror and curator for issue #45. Through Create! Magazine and Sergio, I’ve learned so much about the value of community and the importance of being part of one. I’m deeply humbled and appreciative to be included in this issue and community. Thank you, Sergio and Create! Magazine, for your endless support and inspiration!"
