Print Issue #39 CALL for ART Curated by Stephanie Chefas

Chefas Projects is the labor of love from its owner, Stephanie Chefas, who has been independently curating art exhibits for over a decade in Los Angeles and San Francisco. Now based in Portland since 2014, Chefas continues to showcase cutting-edge and often challenging work that demands attention. The gallery highlights a diverse blend of contemporary artists from around the world, featuring monthly exhibitions that emphasize cultivating new talent and encouraging risk and evolution among established visionaries. Chefas is also renowned for her ability to coordinate group shows with distinct concepts, providing artists with the freedom to interpret and explore their ideas. Chefas Projects is the culmination of passion, dedication, and a commitment to sharing the best in contemporary art with enthusiasts and collectors alike.

In December 2022, the gallery relocated to a 1,500-square-foot space in the heart of Portland’s Industrial Southeast side, marking a new chapter. With the expanded space, Chefas Projects now offers two exhibition rooms where Stephanie Chefas continues to curate shows that break away from the traditional fine art system.

Formerly known as Stephanie Chefas Projects, the gallery’s rebranding to Chefas Projects reflects the bold, unapologetic artwork and artists showcased each month. Leave your pretensions at the door and join us in an unfettered exploration of striking color, searing imagery, and endless possibility.

What is Create! Magazine?

Create! Magazine was originally founded in 2013 as Fresh Paint Magazine, and in 2016, we rebranded to better serve our mission: to showcase the incredible talent of emerging artists in contemporary art from across the globe. Since then, we’ve proudly highlighted thousands of artists, not only sharing their creations but also the deep meaning, inspiration, and stories behind their work.

Our magazine is a trusted platform recognized by leading media outlets like Colossal, Apartment Therapy, and The Jealous Curator. We’ve forged strong partnerships with prestigious global art fairs, including Art Miami, Moniker, Affordable Art Fair, and Superfine, and collaborated with brands such as Minted.

When you submit to Create! Magazine, you’re not just entering a call for art—you’re stepping into a community that celebrates your voice, your story, and your vision. Whether in our beautifully printed issues available online and at select independent bookstores, or in our digital editions, your art has the opportunity to reach and inspire a worldwide audience.

Isn’t it time for your work to be seen, celebrated, and published? Submit your art to Create! Magazine today and become part of a global movement showcasing the best in contemporary art.

TESTIMONIALS

TESTIMONIALS

  • "21 years ago, I was crashing on a mattress in a loft on the Bowery near Prince St., counting change to buy slices of $1 pizza for breakfast, lunch, and dinner... and making paintings with awkward shapes reminiscent of Philip Guston that no one really cared about (and needed a ton of work!). Fast forward 21 years, and I'm now 2 blocks away from that pizza place at the McNally Jackson Bookstore...which is selling the issue of Create! Magazine that I’m featured in, along with my short story 'In Search of Sun Cups at Night.' I actually broke down in tears outside. The path has been long and often painful, but it's moments like these when I know it has been 100% worth it. Thank you, Ekaterina Popova, for making this possible."

    - Jenny Brown

  • "For all artists thinking about applying: having a mention in Create! a few years ago really helped my art journey. I highly recommend it!"

    - Mark Liam Smith

  • "Create! Magazine is a fantastic platform that supports and encourages artists of all levels, genres, and mediums. I’m incredibly grateful to have been selected by Sergio Gomez, an artist, curator, gallery owner, and mentor, who was the juror and curator for issue #45. Through Create! Magazine and Sergio, I’ve learned so much about the value of community and the importance of being part of one. I’m deeply humbled and appreciative to be included in this issue and community. Thank you, Sergio and Create! Magazine, for your endless support and inspiration!"
