Yuya Saito

Yuya Saito is originally from Japan and is currently based in New York. Encountering skateboarding at the age of 14 gave him his starting point to engage with street and city cultures, including music, design, and fashion. His artwork reflects the city and street as spaces of chaos and transience, where people, things, and events are densely packed together, unfolding and disappearing simultaneously, never to be repeated.

Saito is inspired by his roots in skateboard ramps, incorporating curved shapes into his work. These forms break down the image of cities and streets, functioning as abstract expressions of urban life. Technically, he integrates traditional bentwood furniture manufacturing techniques to create dynamic curves, attempting to capture the atmosphere of cities and streets that unconsciously floats in people's minds.

Like a city where various elements are interconnected, Saito interweaves traditional furniture techniques, architectural structures, and urban materials to develop a new visual language. His work offers a fresh perspective—one that is neither an extension of art history nor simply an outgrowth of street culture.
