All’s Fair: Emma Hapner’s Feminine Perspective at Warnes Contemporary
Warnes Contemporary presents All’s Fair, an exhibition of new works by New York-based figurative painter Emma Hapner. Opening on February 13 at 6 PM, this exhibition showcases a compelling body of work that reinterprets classical painting through a contemporary feminist lens.
Hapner’s practice engages with historical artistic traditions while asserting a distinctly modern viewpoint. In All’s Fair, figures inhabit pink-hued environments, drawing on motifs from classical antiquity to explore the complexities of womanhood. Through bold compositions and a refined palette, Hapner challenges conventional associations of femininity, transforming pink from a symbol of delicacy into one of strength and empowerment.
Reimagining Tradition
Hapner’s exploration of color is integral to her artistic vision. By immersing her figures in saturated pink landscapes, she examines the dynamic interplay between sensuality and power, beauty and resilience. Her work disrupts conventional perceptions of femininity, embracing an aesthetic that is both intimate and assertive.
"By situating multiple figures within an intense pink space, I depict the evolving relationship with selfhood," Hapner states. "Utilizing quinacridone red, magenta, and fluorescent pink, I embrace both the softness and strength inherent in femininity."
