Discover the Fusion of Art and Technology at GR Gallery: Graphic Serendipity
GR Gallery, New York City
Exhibition Dates: January 16 – February 8, 2025
Opening Reception: January 16, 6:00–8:00 PM
GR Gallery is thrilled to announce Graphic Serendipity, a thought-provoking group exhibition showcasing the works of Adam Lister, Gavin Lynch, and Jiri Mayer. Drawing inspiration from the historic 1968 exhibition Cybernetic Serendipity in London, this contemporary showcase explores the integration of digital aesthetics into the traditional realm of painting. The show invites viewers to reflect on the evolving relationship between art and technology in an increasingly digital age.
The Exhibition: A Digital Lens on Contemporary Painting
The title Graphic Serendipity reflects a harmonious intersection between the mechanical and the artistic, akin to its predecessor in 1968. The exhibition features 15 innovative works that evoke the feel of low-resolution digital screens, glitches, and pixelated landscapes. However, what emerges are not mere replications of computer imagery but “Digital Code-scapes”—a striking new style that merges artistic originality with the precision of digital aesthetics.
From the delicate, expressive landscapes of Gavin Lynch to Adam Lister’s minimalist, pixelated interpretations, and Jiri Mayer’s nostalgic MS Paint-inspired works, Graphic Serendipity offers a compelling dialogue about how art bridges the physical and digital worlds.
Meet the Artists
Adam Lister (b. 1978, Rhinebeck, NY) reimagines iconic imagery through geometric pixelation, blending the transparency of watercolor with the flatness of acrylic. Lister’s work reflects a playful yet meticulous approach to visual perception, evoking a modern sense of nostalgia.
Gavin Lynch (b. 1978, Quebec, Canada) redefines the Canadian landscape genre with his dynamic collage-style paintings. His works juxtapose abstraction and representation, offering a captivating interplay of color, light, and form.
Jiri Mayer (b. 1990, Brno, Czechia) taps into the collective memory of the digital native generation. Using Microsoft Paint, Mayer’s works transform pixelation into a vivid artistic language that bridges the past and present.
A Fresh Perspective on the Digital Age
GR Gallery’s Graphic Serendipity challenges traditional boundaries, offering a glimpse into how contemporary artists reinterpret digital sensibilities. Much like Cybernetic Serendipity once redefined art’s relationship with machines, this exhibition reimagines the digital era’s role in contemporary painting, leaving visitors with a fresh perspective on art and technology.
