Abra Johnson

Abra Johnson lives in Atlanta, Georgia, and, after a long career in graphic design, picked up painting. She practices Nostalgic Realism in oil. She has a BFA as well as a minor in art history.

Her favorite subjects to paint are food, spirits, vintage items, and Americana—anything that sparks a sense of memory and comfort. She focuses on realism, striking a fine balance between photorealistic and loose realism, maintaining visible brushstrokes when viewed closely. She loves the challenge of creating realistic values, shadows, and depth, with a particular fascination for glass, reflective surfaces, and transparent objects.

She paints on traditional canvases but also enjoys working on whimsical custom cut-out wood panel canvases, adding interest and form to her art—thinking outside the box!
