Through topical themes like the disappearance of species, the importance of caring for our animal world, and the belief that all lives deserve respect, she shares her reflections and positions on the place and respect for women, as well as all vulnerable living beings. She enjoys creating a connection between her portraits and selected animals, highlighting the importance of our interrelationships.
Agnès has participated in several international art fairs (Seattle, Singapore, New York) and is currently represented by Beauchamp Gallery in Montréal, Québec, Toronto, and Baie St-Paul, as well as Berthelet Gallery in Trois-Rivières, QC.
Artist Statement
The human figure has always played a central role in my work, emerging from my deep sensitivity to the beauty of the female form. As a self-taught artist, I strive to capture the very essence of these women, using them as a vehicle to communicate a wide range of emotions. Each of my paintings represents a new beginning, a fresh way (or voice) to express what I feel.
Created with acrylics and mixed media (gold leaf and/or collages), my works convey delicacy, strength, sensuality, and fragility—values that I consider essential. They reflect my questions and stance on the place and respect of women, as well as all vulnerable living beings. I address contemporary issues such as the disappearance of species, the importance of protecting our animal world, and the acknowledgment that all lives deserve respect.
In a world that is both brutal and beautiful, I aim to present strong, resilient women, while also revealing their inner emotional conflicts. Torn between strength and vulnerability, coldness and sensitivity, well-being and guilt, these women are often prisoners of their own feelings. I also enjoy creating a dialogue between my portraits and the animals I select, further emphasizing the importance of our interconnectedness.
