Alberto Alonso
Alberto Alonso was born in Puerto Rico in 1996 and moved to Florida after graduating high school. While living in the U.S., he attended the University of Central Florida, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts and became deeply immersed in painting following the unexpected loss of a family member.
After completing his undergraduate degree, Alberto worked in educational roles while focusing on his personal goals. After a year and a half, he decided to apply for the Master of Fine Arts program at UCF, where he is currently a first-year student. Alberto aims to continue depicting and processing his experiences and events through various mediums, aspiring to make art his professional life.
Artist Statement
My work explores complex feelings that emerge from anticipatory and retroactive grief, as well as emotional and physical abandonment. I create acrylic paintings to reflect and confront my deep emotional struggles. I engage in self-exploration and introspection by referencing photographs of my family and my surroundings in Florida and Puerto Rico.
I am interested in capturing the essence of a moment frozen in time—faces and places that will eventually cease to exist. Although my art is rooted in deeply personal encounters, I aim to share these experiences with others who can relate to them.
