Aske Alexander Hvidtfeldt

Aske Alexander Hvidtfeldt is a Danish painter living and working in Aarhus, Denmark. He holds a diploma from the Judland Academy of Fine Art, 2009–2014. While in Berlin on a residency in 2017, he taught himself to use the airbrush and has primarily worked with it since then. Aske has trained and cultivated an array of airbrushing techniques and working methods in order to build up his visual vocabulary, which he expresses with a high degree of skill and sharp precision in his enigmatic, colorful paintings.

Aske had his first large-scale solo exhibition at the artist-run exhibition space, KH7 Art Space, in 2023. The same year, he was selected for two juried group exhibitions, the Easter and Fall exhibitions in Denmark, and he contributed to group exhibitions in the USA and Australia. In 2024, he participated in a duo show with Fusion Galleri, Denmark, and an art auction at Weserhalle, Berlin.

Artist Statement

I fell in love with airbrush painting because it is like assembling a puzzle or building with Legos. It requires a lot of technicality, patience, and problem solving, and it is very soothing to my ADHD brain.
I have a fast-moving image rolodex in my head, endlessly combining, matching, and juxtaposing elements, textures, and color combinations into compositions that engage me and drive my powerful urge to see them materialized on this plane of existence.
I want to evoke feelings of lightness and wonder in my work, tinged with a layer of darkness, something heavier underneath. I find the dualities in the human condition, our surroundings, and our history fascinating.
For each painting, I discover new ideas and symbols that carry over, dripping into new paintings. I find much inspiration in music and in the early modern art movements, as well as from my contemporary colleagues.
As a child, I often lost myself in a state of hyperfocus, sitting and listening to audiobooks on cassette tapes while drawing, always working on a project. I find that I have not changed much in that regard. The cassette tapes have run their course, but not my creative engine.
