Giselle Tate

Giselle Tate is a self-taught, Brazilian-born artist who found her love for abstract art amid the global pandemic. Based in Tampa, Florida, she transitioned from a 10-year career in exporting granites and marbles from Brazil and refinishing kitchen cabinets to becoming a celebrated mixed media artist.

Her preferred mediums include acrylics, spray paints, and inks, chosen for their ability to create unexpected, free-flowing forms. She challenges herself by layering elements such as paper, foam, and cardboard onto canvases, employing a maximalist style that is vibrant and audacious.

Tate's work is a tribute to resilience and self-belief, encouraging viewers to break free from doubts and embrace possibilities. Each piece aims to sprinkle happiness into spaces, transforming them into places where anything feels possible. With bold colors, cool patterns, and textured layers, Tate's art is a testament to the endless playground of creativity.

Artist Statement

I create maximalist pieces that are a celebration of abundance and infinite possibilities. My art is a colorful exploration of life and self-expression, born from my own journey of breaking free from limitations and encouraging others to do the same. I absolutely adore creating a symphony of stripes, dots, lines, and strokes, resulting in beautifully bustling artwork that transfers my energy onto the canvas and ultimately to you.

I am a firm believer in the power of art to transform—it can spark conversations, inspire shifts in perspective, and challenge established norms. My creative process is a delicate dance between chaos and control, where each brushstroke is guided by intuition and raw emotion, breathing life and vibrancy into every piece.

But above all, my aim is to bring a sprinkling of joy into your space, inspiring you to embrace the beauty of your unique journey and the endless possibilities that await.

My Why:

Please let me share a story about my “Why” and what really inspires my art. Back in high school, I heard a fascinating tale about “how to train a flea.” Imagine this tiny flea, jumping in a jar repeatedly until it hits the lid enough times to learn it can only jump so high before it hurts itself. Interestingly, at this point, even when the lid is removed, the flea never again jumps as high as it could. This metaphor struck me; like those fleas, we often curtail our ambitions, constrained by unseen barriers of fear, doubt, and limiting beliefs.

Well, I don’t know about you, but I refuse to be like that flea. My art is about breaking that jar—about leaping beyond those invisible lids and limitations we set for ourselves, exploring a world where anything is possible.

My pieces are bold, vibrant, and super colorful, and it’s my hope that my work leaves the viewer a little more curious, a little more inspired, and a lot more eager to break their own jars.

Let the sky be your limit!
