Sarah Renzi Sanders

Sarah Renzi Sanders is a contemporary surreal artist born in Washington, D.C. She earned her BA in history with a minor in studio art and taught art to kindergarten through 8th-grade students for nearly a decade. After the birth of her third child, Renzi decided to pursue her dream of becoming a full-time artist and mother. She began selling and exhibiting her work in 2017. Since then, the artist has participated in international virtual exhibitions and juried shows in the greater D.C. metro area, as well as New York and Philadelphia. In 2022, Renzi co-founded Girls Who Paint Gallery to create a space for women and underrepresented artists to exhibit, while making art more accessible to her community. Renzi has curated several exhibitions and shown work by hundreds of artists from across the United States and Canada in her gallery. The artist continues to teach adult and children’s classes there as well. Renzi currently resides in Kensington, Maryland with her husband, three children, and two dogs.

Sarah Renzi Sanders creates surreal landscapes inspired by meditations in nature. Whether in the forest or on the beach, she feels connected to something greater than herself and intends to bring this energy to those who view her work. Renzi implements organic lines and textures to paint the luminescence of the ocean and the movement of passing clouds. Using highly saturated oil and acrylic paints, she mixes a brilliant spectrum of colors that radiate with illusory vibration. In her paintings, the artist wishes to express the earth as alive and interconnected in a delicate balance. Much of her recent body of work is informed by being a mother and viewing the earth as mother to us all. Therefore, the artist incorporates spiritual symbols of femininity, divine mother, and rebirth. In a time when women and the natural world are constantly under threat, Renzi creates work that pays homage to their sacredness and intrinsic connection.
