What initially drew you to art?

My initial draw to art came from an innate desire to express my innermost thoughts and emotions. As a young person, art became a profound outlet for these expressions—a space where I could explore and articulate feelings and ideas that were otherwise intangible. This early connection deepened significantly during my time at the New York Academy of Art, where I was immersed in an environment that fostered intense personal and artistic development.

What elements of your life have ended up becoming a part of your art?

Various elements of my life, from my philosophical musings to my observations of human behavior, are intricately woven into my artwork. My experiences living in the digital age, teaching, and engaging with different cultures and societies have also significantly shaped the themes I explore. These experiences manifest in my work through the exploration of identity, societal changes, and the human relationship with technology.

What about your practice do you find the most fulfilling and/or energizing?

The most fulfilling aspect of my practice is the ability to continuously push the boundaries of traditional mediums and themes. Whether I'm working on oil paintings or sculptural pieces, each project is an opportunity to delve deeper into the narratives and themes I'm passionate about. The process of bringing intangible ideas into tangible forms and watching them resonate with audiences provides an indescribable sense of accomplishment and drive.

Tell us about your experience getting to where you are now. What has been the most important thing you’ve learned?

My journey has been marked by continuous learning and adaptation. One of the most important lessons I've learned is the value of persistence and adaptability. Navigating the challenges of establishing a unique voice in the crowded field of art and finding financial stability required not just creative skills but also an understanding of the broader art market and community. Embracing diverse roles within the art world— from teaching to collaborating with other artists—has enriched my practice and perspective.

How has ‘community’ impacted your artistic practice?

Community has played a pivotal role in my artistic practice. The support and feedback from fellow artists, students, and art enthusiasts have been invaluable. These interactions have not only provided me with different perspectives that enrich my work, but they’ve also offered opportunities for collaboration and growth. The sense of belonging and shared purpose within these communities continually inspires and motivates me, influencing the themes I explore and the projects I undertake.
