Katherine Hassett

Kate Hassett is a Chicago-based photo and fiber artist whose work delves into personal discomfort and humor. As a student at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Kate’s focus lies in exploring the intersections of fiber art and photography.

Kate's current work addresses her discomfort with sex while being a body continuously sexualized, particularly in the digital realm. She confronts this paradox by incorporating digital techniques to create tangible, physical pieces. Many of her projects begin with self-portraits, which are then transformed using digital embroidery, screen printing, or jacquard weaving, reinforcing her connection to the materiality of her art.

Humor plays a crucial role in Kate’s practice, allowing her to navigate her discomfort with a comedic lens. Having studied comedy from a young age through improv and stand-up, she now channels her voice through visual art, offering a witty yet introspective commentary on vulnerability and identity.
