Natasha Mott
Natasha Mott is an emerging artist whose paintings are inspired by the different seasons of life. Originally from a small wheatbelt town in Western Australia, Natasha grew up on a grain and livestock farm. Her talent for painting was first recognized by her high school art teachers, who submitted her oil painting of a stockman and his dog for exhibition at The Gallery of Western Australia. After graduating high school, Natasha went on to complete her Bachelor of Visual Arts and Graduate Diploma in Education at Edith Cowan University. Natasha has enjoyed a long career in teaching and has, only in the past 3 years, started painting again. Natasha now lives in Perth’s northern coastal suburbs with her husband and two children. She paints daily in her home studio and continues to teach on a casual basis at their local primary school. Natasha is influenced by The French Impressionists’ loose, painterly style and idealistic representations of middle-class recreational scenes. Natasha is represented by galleries on the west and east coast of Australia and has exhibited most recently with Aspire Gallery at the Sydney and Melbourne Affordable Art Fairs and the RME Downlands Art Exhibition in Toowoomba, QLD.
Artist Statement
The celebration of life and shared human experience inspires me to create art. I am, by nature, a “glass half full” kind of gal, so I enjoy designing idyllic compositions that have a sense of humor or a touch of luxury, or both! My latest collection of paintings explores my long love affair with the beach. Growing up on a farm in outback Australia, once a year during summer, my family would holiday by the ocean. My paintings depict seemingly endless days at the beach and seascapes elaborate in light and color, amplifying memories of days filled with warmth and joy. By painting these “magic moments,” I invite people to reflect on their own treasured memories, creating connections through shared experiences.
My choice of subject matter is a nod to nostalgia and fun, as are my style and technique. Raised in the late 1970s, my love of all things retro is obvious in the color palettes and patterns that I use. Stripes, florals, and hues of orange, magenta, and teal are amongst some of my favorite elements to include. When painting, I use brushes to layer household acrylic paint of varying thickness and texture onto a colorful primed board. I playfully leave some under color showing, creating a harmonious and relaxed style. My painterly technique, combined with style and subject matter of days gone by, stirs familiar and friendly feelings, allowing me another opportunity to connect with people through my art.
